Megan S. Smith holds an M.S. in biology and currently works as a documentary filmmaker and freelance investigative journalist reporting on health issues. Prior to that, she worked as a screenwriter, a Capitol Hill lobbyist, and a stage performer. Her first documentary, “bOObs: The War on Women’s Breasts” — which Smith wrote, produced, and directed — looks into the controversial breast cancer screening tool of mammography and the possible new protocol of thermography used in conjunction with ultrasound. It is being distributed worldwide by L.A.-based Cinema Libre Studio.
Listen in as Megan S. Smith explains the issues with mammograms and how the radiation they give off is actually much higher than the doctors tell you. Additionally, she explains how the alternative of thermography combined with ultrasound has been shown to be much more effective especially for women with dense breasts.
