I haven’t done an update on EMFs since 2017. Since things change SO MUCH when it comes to technology, I thought it was time we got caught up on EMFs with a two-part series. The “bad” news is that there are more studies than ever that link 4G and 5G cellphone technology to serious health risks. The great news is that there is more awareness and technology that can help us to thrive in a wireless world.
Pivotal Studies About 4G
I remember when the first studies from the World Health Organization came out, linking a clear connection between EMF exposure and diseases such as cancer. And those studies were using 2G devices!
4G is the signal that most cell phones use nowadays. Look on your phone and you will probably see the “4G” or “LTE” icon. Recent studies have shed light on what 4G exposure can do to the human body:
-A 2018 Chinese study on 4G-LTE technology found that exposure to the EMF from the technology for 30 minutes led to “modulation of brain functional connectivity.” On this note, did you know that the Chinese government encourages pregnant women to wear radiation-protection aprons to protect their unborn babies from their computers?
-A 2011 report published in part by researchers for the US National Institutes of Health found that 4G raised blood glucose levels. Keep in mind that cancer feeds on glucose.
-A 2014 study found that signals in the fairly low EMF range can cause DNA strands to break in normal cells. If these ranges can negatively affect genes, what in the world could 5G do?
The 5G “Wake Up Call”
Just a couple of years ago, most people didn’t know much about EMFs from 5G. Now there are 5G pilot areas around the world, including in parts of Sacramento, Dallas, and Atlanta. According to a 2017 report put out by Cradlepoint, major carriers like Verizon and T-Mobile will begin launching their 5G networks in the mass market by mid-2019.
If 5G develops as fast as 4G did, within a decade the entire globe may be covered in 5G!
5G/LiFi uses extremely high-frequency ranges (about 10 times faster than current data speeds), and this is concerning for a couple of reasons.
First of all, to date, there has been NO official studies investigating exactly what 5G does in the human body. What scientists are discovering in speculative studies is downright scary. Swiss researchers speculated in 2018 that forms of 5G may “lead to permanent tissue damage after even short exposures.”
Secondly, 5G operates using short bursts of extremely high-frequency EMF waves. Thus, 5G does not have a very large range. To make up for this, companies and government officials alike have said that they plan on having a 5G antennae on “every street corner.”
There have also been experts who have come out publicly against 5G. One such expert is Dr. Sharon Goldberg, a 20-year internal medicine physician, researcher, and professor. Dr Goldberg recently spoke at a public hearing for Michigan Senate Bill 637, a wireless-industry-led piece of legislation supporting 5G infrastructure in that state.
“Wireless radiation has biological effects. Period,” said Goldberg. “This is no longer a subject for debate when you look at PubMed and the peer-review literature…We have evidence of DNA damage, cardiomyopathy, which is the precursor of congestive heart failure, and neuropsychiatric effects…5G is an untested application of a technology that we know is harmful; we know it from the science. In academics, this is called human subjects research.”
What You Can Do
Despite this grim news, there are things you can do to protect yourself and your family now. Health investigator and advocate Nick Pineault has some simple yet sound advice on how to protect yourself:
-put some distance between yourself and your device. Nick says that just one foot of distance can reduce EMFs by 80%!
-Turn off your Wi-Fi router at night when you sleep. You will know that you are getting better sleep because you will wake up more refreshed and also remember your dreams.
-NEVER put your device next to your skin. This includes a cell phone next to your ear or in your bra or a Bluetooth device in your ear. Use your speaker on your phone instead. Even though it is a “laptop,” don’t put that laptop on your lap. Put it on the desk in front of you.
Some companies also provide guards you can purchase for your phone and other devices. We will be talking about those more in the next article.
It’s Up to Us
Sadly, right now we simply cannot rely on government officials or companies to provide safe means of communicating in this high-tech world. Yet the consequences of NOT protecting ourselves from these signals can be deadly.
