There is no doubt that having solid support, in the form of coaching or in another way, is absolutely vital to healing on a Healthy Breast journey. In fact, a study done at the University of Utah found that getting healthy support from others can translate directly into positive benefits for the heart, brain and immune system. Recently I sat down with De’Ann, one of our seasoned 7 Essentials® coaches, to ask her about what makes 7 Essentials coaching so unique. De’Ann is a health coach and a registered nurse with years of experience in emergency and critical care. She has a passion for alternative medicine and loves to support women through the 7 Essentials System®.
Group Coaching: a Fit for Almost Anyone
Dr. V: At Breast Cancer Conqueror, we have two different kinds of in-person coaching, One-on-One and Group. Can you explain how a woman who is considering coaching can determine which kind would be best for her?
De’Ann: It really depends on you and your situation. Women come in to both Group Coaching and Private Coaching for a variety of reasons. These reasons have to do with their particular “style” of learning, how much they already know about the 7 Essentials System® and also what their situation is at the time of sign up.
Group Coaching is an awesome option for people who are already familiar with the 7 Essentials System® but want to know more before they take a more intense approach.
On the other hand, if you feel that you are not too familiar with the 7 Essentials System® and would like a detailed overview of that, then I would suggest to start with Group Coaching as well. That way you are guaranteed to have this foundation of knowledge that is so important to build upon for a healthy life.
Group Coaching is also perfect for those on a healing journey who want to keep tabs on where they are health wise. It is ideal for those who are being proactive with prevention and would benefit from the support of other women in living a 7 Essentials® Healthy Breast lifestyle.
Of course, if you feel that you are a person who works best with one on one attention, then one-on-one personal coaching might be best for you initially.
Dr. V: Since you are the health professional that currently runs the Group Coaching program, can you describe it a little more? Maybe give us a rundown of what a woman who participates in Group Coaching can expect?
De’Ann: Absolutely. Group Coaching runs basically like a mini retreat. We cover the 7 Essentials® week by week for 10 weeks. There is interaction, weekly challenges, videos, sample tests, EFT tapping sessions and an opportunity to introduce yourself and become familiar with the other women on the call. At the end of each call, there is always an open question & answer session.
Each call lasts anywhere from one hour to 1.5 hours, depending on the number of questions asked. We use Zoom video calls so you can interact with everyone and see their lovely faces. Zoom is really great because there is a chat button where you can type questions and you also have the option of turning your video on so others can see you. I always encourage the women on the group call to do this as it makes the meeting feel more intimate. I also share my screen multiple times during the call to share appropriate and relevant videos and examples.
Dr. V: I decided to offer a Group Coaching program in order to make coaching more affordable and accessible to more women. It may not be an option that many women are aware of, which is why we are sharing this interview with you today. Who are the kind of people who would be on a typical Group Coaching call?
De’Ann: We have a wide range of ladies on each call. A few are currently undergoing chemotherapy and are learning how to heal naturally too. A few are done with chemo and some are choosing evidence-based natural medicines. These coaching clients are extremely kind and supportive of each other. During the question & answer portion of the call, sometimes the other women chime in with their experiences. That can be especially rewarding and helpful to the others as well.
Private One-on-One Coaching: A More Intimate Approach
Dr. V: Let’s switch over to talk a little bit about One-on-One coaching. What are the benefits of working with a coach one-on-one?
De’Ann: One-on-One, or Private, Coaching is quite different from Group Coaching in that One-on-One allows you personal time with your coach. On these calls, you can go into detail about your particular situation.
Your first step before we have our initial call is to fill out a 15-page, individualized questionnaire. This gives your coach some information about how you are currently implementing the 7 Essentials System® in your life. You can also share any labs or scans you have had with your coach so she can help you make a personalized plan for your healing.
Dr. V: Do you cover a particular curriculum with a client or is it more organic and based on her unique needs?
De’Ann: We do both, actually. 7 Essentials® coaches do have certain points that we want to make sure you feel comfortable with. We want to make sure you have a very solid understanding of each of the 7 Essentials® first and foremost.
The 7 Essentials® really are the basis for everything else we will talk about and do. How we approach those Essentials, however, totally depends on individual needs! We can also adjust our recommendations based on personal lab results and other issues.
Dr. V: How long is a person usually in One-on-One Coaching?
De’Ann: The Private Coaching options are longer than the Group Coaching options initially. You can choose from either a 6-month program or a 12-month program for One-on-One. Many women want continued support and decide to carry on with their coaching after their first program has ended. For that, they take advantage of our continuity packages.
Some Women Benefit from Both
Dr. V: Are some clients in both Group Coaching and One-on-One?
De’Ann: Yes! Some women start off with Group Coaching and then decide that they would like to continue learning on a more one-on-one basis. Those women generally are more educated on the 7 Essentials® as a whole. When they start their coaching program, most of them are ready to jump right in to personalized coaching.
“Having access to coaching sessions has helped me to prioritize choices and avenues as well as strategies toward wellness.
Coming to the retreat has given me a wealth of info and the coaching helps me to tailor my approach toward my health.” -K.B.
To be honest, if I had my way, every client would start off with Group Coaching first so as to get that sturdy foundational knowledge of the 7 Essentials®. Then they would ease into Private Coaching when the time was right. One-on-One Coaching can really help “hone in” even deeper all the knowledge that a person learns in Group Coaching. You can also fine tune the healthy lifestyle habits that work for you and learn from others—and especially from you, Dr. V!
Dr. V: Exactly! Both Group Coaching and Private Coaching have their advantages based on individual needs. I tend to think that the women involved in our coaching programs are some of the most empowered women I know. I often think this is because of how wonderful they feel to have the support of other women on their natural healing journey.
De’Ann: Absolutely! The women in both the Group Coaching and Private Coaching come away with a deep knowledge about how to heal that most definitely shows in how confident they are as they follow their Healthy Breast path.
I love helping the women in both programs. At the end of the day, if I have helped someone understand how to better themselves, then I feel like I have done my job. I enjoy educating them and empowering them to have the courage to heal the way they want to.
