New NIH Study Proves Cellphone Dangers


A part of Breast Health Awareness Month is learning more about the “unseen dangers” of cellphone radiation. According to Dr. Andrew Weil, “Electropollution may be the most significant form of pollution human activity has produced in this century.” It is dangerous because you don’t feel it, see it or taste it but it affects you 24/7.

As of 2016, these dangers are becoming more apparent and backed by science. The United States National Toxicology Program (NTP, a part of the U.S. National Institute of Health) has just completed a $25 million multi-year study on cellphone emissions. Ironically, its original purpose was to prove that the radiation emitted by cellphones is safe. The results, however, turned out to be just the opposite.

The NIH Report

The study started in 2009 and focused on the cancer risk of hundreds of rats exposed to varying levels of cellphone radiation for nine hours a day over a 2-year period. Prior research had made the connection between long-term cellphone exposure and breast cancer and brain cancer.

The NIH study, however, is significant since it is the result of a long-term government investigation and it has found what is perhaps the strongest evidence to date on the link between cellphone use and cancer as well as its effects on the heart.

The NIH researchers found that as rodents were exposed to greater levels of radiation, the incidents of glial (brain) tumors as well as cancer of the heart nerve— both considered “rare” conditions —grew significantly. These findings correspond with other studies which have made the correlation between cellphone use and brain and breast cancer in humans.

“It actually has me concerned, and I’m an expert,”  study founder Christopher Portier said in a 2016 interview for Scientific American.

The “5G spectrum” began its trial phase in 2017 and is expected to cover 95% of both urban and rural areas in the United States by 2020. The main thing to keep in mind about 5G is that it is not just the “5th generation” of wireless signals; 5G uses frequencies in the gigahertz range (up to 86 GHz) that have never been tested for human safety.

5G cannot travel as far as previous wireless generations (2G, 3G, and 4G). This factor conveniently gives the wireless industry the justification for a massive roll-out. It has been projected that each of the four major cellphone carriers will install one million new cell towers in coming years.

5G proponents say that this roll-out is being done in the name of consumer demand for faster connection speeds as well as in preparation for “smart cities,” “smart homes” and “smart vehicles” that will be connected by the “Internet of Things.”

What You Can Do

The most important thing you can do is to learn how to protect yourself and your family. Start with simple things like hard wiring your lap top and turning off your electronic devices (including wireless routers) at night.  Keep cellphones and other internet or blue tooth-dependent gadgets away from your body.
