The Benefits of Organic, Grass Fed Colostrum

Colostrum, often referred to as the “first food of life,” is a vital immune substance that all newborns receive from their mothers right after birth.  Most newborn mammals will die if they do not receive it and a baby is definitely at a disadvantage if he or she does not receive it. The immune and growth factors in colostrum help minimize the physical stress of birth, protect against infections, seed the G.I. tract with beneficial bacteria, help prime the immune system and promote healthy growth and development overall.

For adults, supplementing with bovine colostrum can help balance the immune system. It can also heal intestinal permeability, known as Leaky Gut Syndrome, which researchers are connecting more and more with cancer. This is why it is quickly becoming a promising new cancer adjunct therapy. And because bovine colostrum is readily available and can be easily processed into supplements, it is an economical solution to an otherwise expensive disease.

What Is Leaky Gut Syndrome?

It’s estimated that more than 85% of the Western population has Leaky Gut Syndrome (LGS). In fact, LGS is now recognized as the primary cause of chronic and autoimmune conditions, and is believed to play a direct role some types of cancer.

LGS results from damage to the lining of the stomach and small intestine. The lining becomes “leaky” in the sense that undigested food particles, pathogens (gut bugs), antibiotic residues, pesticides, and other toxins are able to cross over from the digestive system into the bloodstream. This causes the immune system to instigate an inflammatory response in an effort to destroy these foreign substances.

The ongoing leakage of toxins into the bloodstream can cause chronic inflammation. Over time, the immune system begins to attack healthy tissue as well. Ultimately, LGS can result in liver damage, kidney damage, and a general disruption of the immune system. The immune system’s Natural Killer (NK) cells are designed to destroy cancer cells, but if this system becomes overwhelmed by the on-going leakage of “intestinal sewage,” cancer cells could multiply without restraint.

Recent studies have reported on the increased risk of cancer in patients who have LGS. A study performed at Thomas Jefferson University found that hormone receptor guanylyl cyclase C (GC-C) helps to strengthen the body’s intestinal barrier, which can keep cancer at bay. Leaky Gut Syndrome can weaken GC-C, however.

How Does Bovine Colostrum Fight LGS and Cancer?

Colostrum is produced by nursing mothers during the first 72 hours after birth and is vital for immune system health.

A lack of or limited breastfeeding, antibiotic use, pain medications and poor lifestyle/diet choices can all lead to LGS. Bovine colostrum supplementation, on the other hand, can “heal and seal” LGS, halting “intestinal sewage” from crossing over into the bloodstream.

The large amounts of proline-rich polypeptides (PRPs) and lactoferrin in bovine colostrum provide a strong layer of defense against viral-caused cancers too. PRPs help to modulate the immune system, fight infection and reduce inflammation, returning the body to a state of homeostasis.

Lactoferrin has a different mechanism of action. It binds to and destroys bacteria, viruses, and fungi on contact. In vitro studies examining bovine colostrum-derived lactoferrin have demonstrated beneficial anti-cancer effects on breast, colon, and lung cells. It also has been shown to block entry of the human papilloma virus (HPV) into cells.

The National Cancer Institute (NCI) reports that depression affects up to 25% of all cancer patients. Aside from the immune-modulating effects of bovine colostrum, colostrum that is taken every four hours has been shown to help balance blood glucose levels and regulate the uptake of serotonin and dopamine for improved mental health.

Supplementing with Bovine Colostrum: What You Need to Know

It takes about six weeks on average to heal LGS, assuming poor lifestyle behaviors are changed for good. After this, daily supplementation will help prevent intestinal permeability from recurring. However, you must take a clinically-proven bovine colostrum supplement from a manufacturer that verifies the bioactivity of every batch. Anything less may put your health at risk.

Colostrum-LD™ from Sovereign Laboratories has been clinically proven to heal and prevent LGS, is verified to contain the maximum quantity of immune and growth factors, and has more than two decades of research behind it.

Colostrum-LD™ utilizes a proprietary liposomal delivery (LD) system for optimal effectiveness. The protective lipid coating that surrounds every particle in Colostrum-LD™ ensures that its healing components will be delivered to the cells and organs where they are needed. Liposomal delivery makes the colostrum up to 1,500% more bio-available than colostrum without LD.

In addition, supplementation with both oral spray and powered colostrum is recommended because the large amount of peptides play such a significant role in modulating the immune system against viral-caused cancers. Sovereign Laboratories offers the product Colostrum-IC™ for just that reason.

Sovereign Laboratories has set the gold standard for collecting and processing colostrum into safe, non-allergenic, and effective supplements that are Halal and Kosher certified. Pasture-fed dairy cows living in the Southwestern United States supply fresh colostrum to Sovereign Laboratories and are certified free of hormones and antibiotics. Naturally gluten-free, all Sovereign Laboratories colostrum products are physician-recommended for people of all ages, for those who are on a cancer-healing journey and for those want to prevent it.

Douglas Wyatt is the founder of Sovereign Laboratories, in Sedona, Arizona. He is a leading expert in colostrum and is credited with reintroducing bovine colostrum into human use. Doug also serves as Research Director for the Center for Nutritional Research and has worked with the World Health Organization and other internationally recognized research organizations on studies around HIV/AIDS and infectious diseases, autoimmune diseases, and bowel health. • I have bought the Colostrum LD powder but have not used it yet, could you please let me know of possible risks of Mad cow Dis, or other animal source dis.
    How much safe is this?

    • Hello Rose, I have found this source to be very safe. Always do your research and only do what you feel is best for you!

    • Some symptoms can be chronic diarrhea, constipation, gas or bloating, poor nutrition, fatigue, headaches and others. You can work with your doctor or naturopath for testing to determine if you have leaky gut!

  • Is this safe for hormone driven cancer, estrogen and progesterone driven? Had tumor in my fibroid and currently in chemo for the sixth time.

    • Hi Ruby! I would certainly recommend you consider a trained health coach or practitioner for suggestions based on your specific situation.

    • Hello Dale! Colostrum is a great option for anyone looking to heal their gut regardless of the “dis-ease” that they are currently healing from!

    • Hi Becky, colostrum is supportive of the gut and immune system. We are not aware of any studies that advise against taking it with a Her2 diagnosis. You can always discuss any concerns you have about certain foods/supplements with your trusted health coach or practitioner.
