GcMAF - what to do if your body doesn't absorb Vitamin D

To find out exactly what your beautifully unique body needs—test, test, test! For example, my body type will not thrive on a plant-based diet. Based on my metabolic type, I am a Balanced Carnivore. This means I need to supplement with specific nutrients since, for example, my body doesn’t convert beta-carotene into Vitamin A. I also do not convert Vitamin D from sunshine, supplements, or food alone. I discovered this (through Genetic Testing with the Nutrition Genome test) and many other unique aspects of my genetic makeup during my second healing journey. 

However, optimal levels of Vitamin D are critical for a healthy immune system, bones, and mind. It can also help prevent cancers and provide anticancer effects for healing. Just about every woman with Breast Cancer that my team and I have supported had a deficiency in vitamin D. This study analyzed data from close to 100 women, half of whom had breast cancer. They found that serum Vitamin D levels lower than 20 ng/ml were equated with higher breast cancer risk overall.

But the real ah-ha moment for me was when I realized—you could be taking supplements, spending time in the sun, and eating foods rich in Vitamin D—but if your body can’t process it, then it’s not doing you any good.

Strategic Ways To Increase Your Vitamin D

Very few people (kids included) in the world are getting the Vitamin D they need. As I said above, most women who come to me for support are extremely low on Vitamin D—as I was.Vitamin D + K

Below are several strategic ways to consume more Vitamin D:

  • Supplement: Vitamin D+K.  As you raise your Vitamin D level, your body’s K demand also increases. You may need to start with high doses of Vitamin D if your levels are very low. 
  • Fatty fish: Salmon, tuna, herring, cod liver, and sardines provide potent amounts of Vitamin D. Here are a few of my favorite salmon recipes.
  • Mushrooms: Some mushrooms, if they are grown in the sun, can supply a small amount of Vitamin D. Here are some marvelous mushroom recipes
  • Sunshine: It’s a great way to get natural Vitamin D; being outside always boosts your mood. Find one thing you love to do and prioritize it. For me, this is being on a tennis team.
